LIGHTNING OVER KUMARAKOM, KERALA

from $75.00

On the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake, the largest lake in Kerala and the longest in India, lies Kumarakom, a cluster of small islands surrounded by backwaters, mangroves and paddy fields. It is one of the most peaceful corners of South India, known for its slow boat journeys and its famous bird sanctuary.

But on the day I took this photograph, the calm gave way to drama. As a heavy downpour swept across the water, a bolt of lightning split the dark sky above Kumarakom, lighting up the backwaters for a single, electric instant.

It is a rare moment that shows the raw power of nature in the tropics. As a fine art print, it brings energy and drama to any living room, office or workspace.

Available in a choice of sizes and finishes. Each print is produced to museum-quality standards.
