In the far north-east of Vietnam, close to the border with China, Halong Bay is one of the most extraordinary seascapes on earth. Thousands of limestone islands rise straight out of the emerald water, and the bay is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I photographed this scene as the sun began to set, with a soft mist hovering over the water and wrapping around the limestone peaks. The fading light and the layers of islands disappearing into the haze give the bay a quiet, timeless atmosphere, far from the crowds of the day.

One of the most visited places in Vietnam, the bay is best explored on an overnight cruise that winds between its islands. As a fine art print, it brings that sense of calm and wonder to any living room, bedroom or office.
